2. If you can locate an expert on Ancient Egypt they can be very helpful. Here's some starting places to locate an expert:

Parents- Some may be amazed to find that mom or dad share your passion about Ancient Egypt.
Teacher- Teachers put a lot of work into developing your Ancient Egypt Unit. Maybe they can help you.
Librarians- They always seem to know, don' they?
Museum Curators- Check out the Museum of Fine Arts; Boston (Rita Freed is Curator of the Department of Ancient Egyptian.)

3. Web Pages can be an excellent source of information. To find more information on Ancient Egypt try the Magellan Search Engine. Let's pretend that you want to find out more information on Hieroglyphics. To search for information you must :

1. Brainstorm key words ( hieroglyphics, writing, picture writing, numerals, math, sounds, communication,...)
2. Type the keyword(s) AND Ancient Egypt into the search engine (hieroglyphics AND Ancient Egypt)
3. Use boolean logic to narrow your search (see Magellan Search Tips and Help and General Search Tips to learn to use this.)
4. Sort through your findings for pages that are both relevant and well done. Remember to double check any information.

General Search Tips

1. Search for ideas and concepts instead of just keywords, using more than one word in your search. Magellan uses Intelligent Concept Extraction (ICE) to find relationships that exist between words and ideas, so the results of a search will contain words related to the concepts you're searching for.

2. Magellan's search results are sorted by relevance. The results nearest the top will usually be the most relevant.

3. Use Magellan's Find Similar link. If you find that one of the many returned results better describes what you are searching for, click on the words "Find Similar" next to the URL. Our search engine will then use that document as an example in a new search, to find more sites similar to the one you liked.

4. Use more descriptive, specific words as opposed to general ones. For example, a search for "Lamborghini" will return much more specific results than a search for "sports cars."

5. Try an Advanced Search. Use the "+" (plus) sign for words that your results MUST contain. Or use the "-" (minus) sign in your query to tell the search engine that your results should NOT contain a certain word. When using these options, do not leave any space between the sign and the word.

6. Choose where you want to search by using Magellan's radio buttons below the search box. This allows you to search the World Wide Web, Magellan Reviews, and Green Light sites.
