  1.  iwebquest.com Presents our Great New Webquest:

Local Student
Chased Up A Tree!!!
A Math Webquest

Here is a sample of what you will find:

On a recent class trip to Yellowstone National Park, a student was chased to the top of a very slippery tree that was thirty-six (36) feet high. The teacher tried to save the student but it was no use, so she used her cell phone to call in the park rangers.  One quick thinking ranger, immediately dispatched a helicopter to rescue the student.  He told the teacher it would take exactly twelve (12) minutes for the helicopter to arrive, drop a ladder, and help the student climb up to safety.

Meanwhile, back at the scene, the Bear began to climb the tree.  It climbed up eight (8) feet in one minute time but the next minute the bear slid back down the tree four (4) feet.  This pattern of going up eight (8) feet up in one minute and sliding back down four (4) feet the next minute continued.

Unfortunately, the bottom of the article got chewed off by your friend's new puppy.  Use your math skills and math materials available to you in your classroom (paper, pencil, ruler, manipulatives...) to figure out whether the student survived or not!

Re-write the missing end of the article explaining whether the student survived or not.  Make sure that you include an explanation of your how you figured this out, an detailed picture to illustrate your thoughts, and your reasoning why you figured it out the way you did.

This sounds great! Take me to Local Student Chased Up A Tree!!!
A Math Webquest
so I can get started!

4.  Teacher Corner:  Topic of the Month

Sometimes it seems that no matter how hard we teachers try, we end up trapped in our own classroom creating our own lesson plans.  The Internet is revolutionizing teaching and brining us into the age of “We Is Smarter Than Me!”  The Teachers Corner: Topic of the Month utilizes the Internet to create an open forum where teachers can share their ideas and lesson plan on the topic of the month.  Would you like to submit your ideas to be considered for publication in iwebquest.com’s Webquest Newsletter for the upcoming month?  Please e-mail your ideas or lesson plans to support@iwebquest.com. with the words “Teacher’s Corner:  Topic of the Month” in the subject box.

January's Topic:

Teaching math used to be pretty easy.  You know, open the book to page 64 and complete problems 1-24.  Now, the rules have changed and we are being asked to challenge our students to question,  learn math concepts and problem solving techniques, and then apply their learning in real life situations. Together, we can help each other and turn math into a subject that is meaningful for our students.  This month, iwebquest.com asks that you share your ideas, lessons, and projects on math concepts, problem solving, and math in the real world!

Send us your teacher proven ideas (support@iwebquest.com.)

5.  Kid’s Contest:

Local Student Chased Up A Tree!!! Contest

iwebquest.com wants to recognize the all the effort that you and your student(s) have put into learning how to use the Internet wisely.  We invite you to apply your technology skills and your math knowledge to creatively solve the math problem.  Make a presentation that clearly explains how you solved  the problem.   You may want to create a banner advertisement, and Avid-Cinema video advertisement, a Hollywood High cartoon to explain your solution.

Please submit all entries to support@iwebquest.com.

Teachers, parents, and students proceed to Local Student Chased Up A Tree!!! A Math Webquest!
