Stay On Task

To let others know about an animal that lives in the ocean or relies on the ocean and how it is being impacted by problems that humans are causing we need to create a web page to teach others about what we know. We will need to:

1. Choose an animal that lives in the ocean or relies on the ocean

2. Create a life-size mural of your

   • Animal in action,

   • And some of the other plants and animals that live there.

3. Then, we will need to write a report describing our animal, the impact of humans on this animal, and some possible solutions to the problems humans have caused.

4. Finally, we need to use images of our life-size animal and our report to develop a web page that will teach others about what we know. 

This sounds like something that we can do!

Discover the Wonderful Ocean

I've got this great idea!

1. Why don't we go on a virtual field trip to the New England Virtual Aquarium. 
    

2. We could learn a lot more about the ocean and the animals that live in or near it. 
    

3. Once we have some time to explore we can choose our favorite animal to study.

Explore Ocean Habitats 

If we’re going to make the background for our mural look realistic we’re going to have to learn more about the habitat that our animal lives in.

1. Let's go back to the Virtual Aquarium to explore our animal for a little bit to find out what habitat it lives in.   We can find out more about what habitat our animal lives in. 
   
2. Once we learn a little about our animal’s habitat, we can use the links below to learn more about where our animal lives and what other plants and animals live there.
   
3. Then, we can create the background for our life-size animal.

Investigate Ocean Animals

I feel like we're really doing a great job on our project.  How about you?  For this section we need to:

1. Let's use the links that I have sent to explore our animal

   • How big is it? 

   • How fast is it?

   • What does it eat?

   • How does it get it's food?

   • How does it defend itself?

   • How does it treat it's young?

   • Are the actions of humans harming this animal?

   • What can we do to help?
     
     

2. We'll then have to each draw a picture of our animal in action.
   
   

3. We can then work together to choose by consensus the best one to model our life-size animal after.
   
   

4. We can then create our life-size animal.
   
   

5. Finally, we'll combine our animal with our background. 

 

Report Your Findings

Wow, our life-size animal is finally done and it looks great!  This took a ton of time and effort but it seems from all the great comments and interest that has been created in our life-size animal that it has really paid off.  Now, let's share our information that we have learned with the world.

We need to:

1. Review what we have learned about our animal and the habitat that it lives in.
   
   

2. Write an essay to educate others about our animal, it's habitat, environmental problems facing our animal, and solutions that we can implement to help our animal.
   
   

3. Create a web page with our essay and a digital image of our life-size animal.
   
   

4. Post this web page onto the Internet and then send our web address to OceanQuest.
