Review what makes a good lesson.
-
Develop an activity for your webquest
Background Information
The culminating activity of a Webquest is a great way to get kids to apply their knowledge to constructively solve authentic problems. The activity of a Webquest can be an online activity that the teacher has created or an offline activity. Just like regular classroom activities, the Webquest activities come in a range of forms. Some of these are: a PowerPoint Presentation; e-mailing an expert in the field; students create their own web pages; a hands-on science experiment; putting on a historical play; using manipulatives to solve a problem in math; or writing a poem. Again, the key is to get kids to apply their knowledge to constructively solve authentic problems.
As a classroom teacher, your goal will be to develop an activity that best fits your student's various needs and learning styles while getting them to apply all the knowledge that they have gained so far. I am a big fan of using collaborative groups to get kids working together to collectively solve their problem. I also find that my students get more excited and learn more from hands-on lessons. I also try to create lessons that meet the needs of my students various learning styles (multiple intelligences) by having them work in different settings (some computer time, some book research, some hands-on lessons...) and play different roles or conduct different jobs to help the group. Finally, have fun with the activity of your Webquest.
This is where all the hard work that students have put into learning so far can really be pulled together. The right activity can get students excited about learning, really solidify what they have learned so far, and get kids to apply their knowledge and thinking at a higher level.
